No, I’m not reciting Shakespeare… Rather, I thought it would be fun as my first post to give the story behind the blog’s name, Keenerosa Cottage…
My grandpa’s last name was Keener and for years, he ran a construction company with his brother – Keener Brothers Construction. He worked on homes, the local hospital and essentially helped build the foundation for the town he lived in. Pa Jamie (As we called him) built the home my mom grew up in, which my grandma still lives in today. He also purchased a 1800’s farmhouse in a small town in Georgia and spent years fixing it up!
In his retirement days, Pa Jamie became a tinkerer. He kept his construction shop and his tools so he could stay busy. I remember spending summers at his house and going down to the shop to “help” Pa with whatever projects he was in the middle of. I also used to steal his Southern Living floor plan magazines. I’d flip through them page by page picking out my future dream homes!
He ignited a passion in me for homes, taking something old or discarded and making it new again and building something from nothing. As a result, I took drafting for 3 years in high school and went off to college with big plans to be a custom home architect. Well, plans change and I ended up in marketing. But I still maintained a passion for homes and now work for a new home builder! I credit Pa Jamie with helping me find my passion in life, so I’m dedicating this blog to his memory.
The word cottage refers to my first home, a cozy white 1950’s cottage that I purchased in 2014. My style gravitates towards a rustic, cottage style to match the charm and character of my home. So, we’re all cottage all the time over here!
Thank you so much for reading my first blog post! You are always welcome here and I look forward to sharing more of my story with you!
Stay tuned –
