It’s reveal time, yet again! Today’s makeover reveal is… the farmhouse dining room! I wish I could say we use this room all the time but the truth is, we only use it if we have company over. And otherwise use our comfy couch and coffee table for meal time. (Especially if new episodes of our Netflix shows are out!)
Here is what the dining room looked like when I first moved in…
You’re probably thinking… “Wait, isn’t this the kitchen?” Well yes, it is but silly me forgot to take a full photo of the dining room before moving in and this is the best I got. You can see the dining room space beyond the kitchen to the left. See the rest of the home before photos here.
And, drum roll please… This is what the room looks like now!
These large Mason-like jars and dry sink buffet table were both from my grandparents’ farmhouse. My grandfather (Pa Jamie) actually built the dry sink, which I’m currently using as a dining buffet. Read more about Pa Jamie and the inspiration behind this blog’s name here!
The space is very cozy, so I have some plans to rearrange it and create more space and seating. I’m going to move the buffet to the other window wall and possibly replace those two chairs shown above with a bench. It will still be tight but it’s easier to slide onto a bench vs. pull out a chair in a small space.
You can barely see two bar stools to the left, which provide seating to the breakfast bar dividing the kitchen and dining room (See the farmhouse kitchen makeover reveal here.) But, after living in the house for almost 3 years… I realized that NO ONE ever sits on the bar stools so they’re essentially taking up some prime real estate in this tiny dining room. By removing them, I’ll be able to put a larger table in the space. And I’ll be able to use the breakfast bar as a serving surface when company’s over.
I’ve also always wanted a farmhouse table, so I see one of those in my future 🙂 … Of course, I’ll update you on all these changes as they happen!
Do you use your dining room often? Or do you eat in the living room like we do?
Stay tuned –
